May I give to more than one fund at SYA?
Yes. We encourage you to support the Annual Fund every year. In addition to the Annual Fund, you may choose to support The Halsey Fund, a restricted endowed scholarship.

2. The Halsey Fund—a restricted fund that honors retired SYA President Woody Halsey and his 31-year career, by establishing an endowment for student scholarships.
Who gives to the Annual Fund?
The SYA community of alumni, parents, trustees, faculty, staff and friends demonstrate their appreciation of the value of an SYA education and support its distinctive mission by giving to the Annual Fund.
What does my Annual Fund gift support?
Gifts to the Annual Fund enable SYA to support such critical areas as:
Approximately 50% of SYA students receive financial aid each year with an average award of approximately 50% of the cost of tuition.
Unique educational opportunities
Group travel and local cultural opportunities are key educational tools at each of the SYA schools.
SYA recruits, develops and retains the highest level of faculty both locally and from top independent schools in the U.S. to teach its students.
SYA maintains its schools to a standard which provides the best learning environment possible for its students.
When does the Annual Fund end?
The Annual Fund runs from July 1 - June 30.
Does SYA recognize leadership gifts?
Yes. Annual Fund Giving Societies recognize leadership in support of SYA’s mission. SYA is grateful for the generous commitment of these donors. Unless anonymity is requested, names of leadership donors are listed by giving society in donor recognition publications.
I can only give a small amount. Does my gift still matter?
Yes. Every contribution is important and combined with gifts from others, provides a strong foundation that SYA counts on each year to sustain excellence.
Are my gifts tax-deductible?
Yes. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law.
Can I direct my gift?
Yes. Annual Fund gifts may be directed to where they are needed most, to financial aid or to any of the individual SYA schools. The options are listed on the giving form.
May I make my gift in memory or in honor of someone?
Yes. Gifts may be made in memory of or in honor of a beloved family member, teacher, host family, or anyone you wish. Please check the box on the giving form and be sure to include how the honoree's name should appear in donor recognition publications. Please also include the email or postal address of the people you would like notified of your gift.
Can I make an anonymous gift?
Yes. Please be sure to check the box on the giving form. Anonymous gifts are listed as “Anonymous” in all donor recognition publications.
What is a Class Scholar? Does my class have one?
Classes who have raised at least $20,000 from at least 20% of the class for the Annual Fund during a single fiscal year (July 1- June 30) may support a one-time Class Scholar. In this increasingly popular program, some classes have supported as many as four scholars in one year. Other classes have supported scholars for three+ years in a row. Email the Development Office to find out if your class is working toward sponsoring a student this year.
How do I obtain my giving history?
Please email the Development Office which will be happy to provide the history of your gifts to SYA.
Who else from my class makes gifts?
Each year SYA publishes the lists of Annual Fund donors by class and giving society in its donor recognition publications. To learn who from your class has given in the current year, please email the Development Office.
How do I make a gift of stock?
There are many ways to give to SYA including securities, wire transfers, planned giving, and corporate matching gifts.
To whom do I make out my check and where do I send it?
Please make checks payable to “School Year Abroad.”
